Chennai: Actor and politician Kamal Haasan has spoken out on the tragic Karur stampede, stressing that the event organisers must take moral responsibility for the incident and offer a public apology to the victims’ families.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives, Haasan said that such tragedies are preventable and highlighted the importance of proper crowd management and safety measures during public events.

“The organisers have a responsibility. It’s time they apologise,” Haasan said, adding that accountability is essential to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also remarked, “Had the event been held elsewhere, it may have led to even more loss of lives,” underlining the need for better planning and venue management.

The Karur stampede, which occurred during a public event, left several people dead and many injured, sparking outrage and calls for an investigation. Haasan’s statement adds to the growing demand from political leaders and civil society for greater safety protocols and stricter enforcement at mass gatherings.

Haasan further urged the authorities to conduct a transparent probe and ensure that the victims’ families receive adequate compensation and support.
