Thiruvananthapuram: In a first-of-its-kind outreach initiative ahead of the upcoming elections, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government has launched the ‘Nava Kerala Welfare Survey’ — an ambitious state-wide exercise designed to assess the impact of welfare schemes and understand people’s priorities directly from their homes.
The mega survey will cover 8 million households across Kerala, making it one of the largest public feedback initiatives in the state’s history.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) will directly coordinate and evaluate the survey, which aims to gauge the effectiveness of existing welfare programmes and identify new areas where government intervention is needed.
Taking inspiration from Kerala’s celebrated literacy campaigns, college students will take the lead in conducting door-to-door data collection. A detailed operational framework has been crafted under the supervision of Chief Principal Secretary K. M. Abraham and senior officials.
With the slogan of “continuity in governance,” the Pinarayi government has already launched several people-centric initiatives — including the ‘CM With Me’ programme — to foster direct engagement with citizens. The new welfare survey is a natural extension of these efforts, aiming to bring governance closer to the people and shape future policies based on their real needs and aspirations.
