Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has declared his readiness to engage in fresh talks with India, aiming to resolve trade disputes that have strained ties between the two nations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he looks forward to speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming weeks, calling him a “very good friend.” He expressed confidence that both countries can arrive at a mutually acceptable solution “without much difficulty.”
The statement comes shortly after Washington slapped a 50% tariff and an additional 25% penalty on Indian products, citing India’s oil imports from Russia. At a recent White House briefing, Trump also stressed his “special relationship” with India and described Modi as a close ally.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled hearings for November on the legality of Trump’s tariff measures, following an appeals court ruling that deemed most of them unlawful.
