Tashkent: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred Uzbekistan’s highest state honour for foreign leaders, the “Oliy Darajali Do’stlik” (Order of Highest Friendship), by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries.
Accepting the honour, Modi dedicated the recognition to the 1.4 billion people of India, describing it as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations and their shared civilisational heritage.
Modi said the appreciation expressed by President Mirziyoyev was a tribute to the longstanding bonds between India and Uzbekistan. He added that the honour carried greater responsibility for India and Uzbekistan to work together as partners of the Global South for the benefit of humanity.
The award reflects the deep-rooted historical and cultural links between the two countries and the growing India-Uzbekistan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
