Thiruvananthapuram: Bringing festive cheer ahead of Onam, the Kerala government has announced a special double pension package for social security and welfare fund beneficiaries. Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal confirmed that ₹1,679 crore has been allocated for the disbursement.
A total of 62 lakh beneficiaries will receive ₹3,200 each, covering the August pension along with one pending installment. Distribution begins Saturday, with funds directly credited to the bank accounts of 26.62 lakh recipients, while others will receive their pensions delivered through cooperative banks at their homes.
The minister also noted that for 8.46 lakh people under the National Pension Scheme, the central government is responsible for its share. To avoid delays, the state has advanced ₹48.42 crore, which will later be credited to beneficiaries via the Union government’s PFMS system.
