Massive Disruption Expected Tomorrow as Bharat Bandh Set to Impact Key Sectors Across India

India is bracing for a nationwide Bharat Bandh on July 9, called by a coalition of 10 central trade unions and supported by various farmer and rural worker groups. Over 25 crore workers from crucial sectors—including banking, insurance, postal services, transport, mining, and construction—are expected to join the strike.

The protest is aimed at opposing what unions describe as the government’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate” policies, particularly the push for privatisation, outsourcing, and the controversial new labour codes. A 17-point demand charter, submitted last year, remains unaddressed, fueling further discontent.

While banks and financial institutions are likely to experience disruptions, stock markets are expected to operate normally. Postal services, public transport, coal mines, and factories may shut down or operate at reduced capacity. Though schools and offices will remain open, transport strikes may affect attendance and commute. Train services aren’t officially part of the bandh, but localised delays and diversions are anticipated due to protests on roads.

With widespread participation expected, authorities urge the public to plan ahead, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay alert to local advisories.
