Vijay Declares Himself CM Candidate, Rules Out BJP Alliance as TVK Gears Up for Solo Battle in Tamil Nadu Polls

Chennai: Tamil superstar Vijay has announced that his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections independently, shutting down all speculation of an alliance with the BJP. The announcement came during the party’s first executive committee meeting in Panaiyur, where TVK also outlined its core political strategy.

Vijay described the BJP as an “ideological opponent” and accused the party of promoting divisive politics. He made it clear that TVK will not align with the BJP under any circumstance, echoing a similar stand against both the DMK and AIADMK, stating that his party will never compromise on its ideological principles.

In a major decision that sets the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle, TVK officially named Vijay as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The resolution was passed unanimously, with the party also granting Vijay full authority to make final calls on any potential political alliances.

To build momentum on the ground, TVK will launch a statewide membership drive in mid-July, followed by a massive public outreach campaign, during which Vijay will tour the state from September to December, connecting directly with voters.

Vijay also used the platform to launch a fierce attack on the ruling DMK government, particularly criticizing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s Parandur airport project, which he said would displace thousands of residents. He questioned Stalin’s silence on the matter and accused him of failing to meet the very people he claims to represent.

In a dramatic warning, Vijay declared that if the government does not adopt a people-first approach, he will march to the Secretariat alongside the affected Parandur residents to demand justice.

With a solo campaign, strong ideological stance, and Vijay as its CM face, TVK is positioning itself as a fresh and uncompromising alternative in Tamil Nadu politics.
