Special Court Sentences Man to 76 Years in Child Sexual Assault Case

A special court in Thrissur has sentenced a 59-year-old man to 76 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹7.6 lakh for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

The convict, Premlal, a resident of Panayampadam in Edakkunni village, was found guilty of repeatedly subjecting the minor to aggravated sexual assault at his residence on different days.

The judgment was delivered by Ramya Menon, Judge of the First Fast Track Special Court, Thrissur. The court awarded the sentence under various provisions dealing with sexual offences against children.

According to the prosecution, the offences occurred on multiple occasions, following which a case was registered and an investigation launched. The victim’s statement was initially recorded by Assistant Sub-Inspector Sibi.

The investigation was carried out by Ollur Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudheeran S.P., who later submitted the charge sheet before the court.

Special Public Prosecutor K. Sooraj appeared for the prosecution, assisted by Assistant Sub-Inspector Sreedevi during the trial.

After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found the accused guilty and imposed the sentence, along with a fine of ₹7,60,000, considering the gravity of the offences committed against the child survivor.
