The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will replace all landline phones at its depots with dedicated mobile numbers starting July 1.
The decision, made under the directive of KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director P.S. Pramoj Shankar, marks a significant leap toward modernizing the state-run transport service. An official order confirming the transition was issued on Thursday.
As part of the new initiative, station masters (SMs) across all 93 KSRTC units in Kerala will be equipped with mobile phones powered by official SIM cards. These phones will operate round-the-clock and serve exclusively for official use—handling passenger queries, providing real-time information, and managing emergency communications.
With landlines being permanently disconnected from July, the public will soon have access to widely circulated mobile numbers to contact depots directly. KSRTC will also implement daily monitoring of call logs to ensure timely responses and service accountability.
Officials say the move aims to eliminate long-standing complaints about unanswered calls and unresponsive landlines, restoring public trust and ensuring a smoother travel experience. Describing it as more than just a digital shift, KSRTC sees the change as a customer-first reform that reflects its renewed commitment to service excellence.
