Kerala Schools Reopen with Grand Celebrations; 3 Lakh Children Begin Their First Day in Class One

After a refreshing two-month break, schools across Kerala swung open their gates today, marking the vibrant start of the new academic year. Welcoming nearly three lakh eager young learners into Class One, the day is being celebrated with much fanfare and joy across the state.

The official state-level inauguration took place at 9:30 AM at Kalavoor Government Higher Secondary School in Alappuzha, where Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally launched the new school year.

The day began with General Education Minister welcoming the fresh batch of Class One students at 9:00 AM, followed by a cultural treat — a dance performance of the school reopening theme song. The song, penned by Bhadra Hari, a student from SVVHSS Thamarakudy in Kottarakkara and composed by acclaimed music director Alphons Joseph, was performed by Anu Thomas, Aleena Mary Shibu, and Jerrin George.

Presiding over the event, the Education Minister also oversaw the release of a special publication highlighting the recent achievements of the General Education Department, unveiled by the Chief Minister and presented to Minister Saji Cherian. The live stream of the celebrations reached schools across Kerala.

Simultaneously, ministers and local representatives took part in district-level reopening ceremonies: G.R. Anil in Thiruvananthapuram, K.N. Balagopal in Kollam, Veena George in Pathanamthitta, and others across all 14 districts.

Following the official ceremonies, schools hosted local celebrations with enthusiastic participation from teachers, students, parents, elected representatives, and cultural icons — making this year’s reopening a truly memorable experience for the children of Kerala.
