Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is experiencing a sharp rise in temperatures, with forecasts predicting a potential heatwave in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures could soar by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal in several regions, raising concerns about the impact on public health and safety.
In response, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued a public advisory urging residents to adopt precautions to minimize heat-related health risks. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has also rolled out guidelines for local bodies to prepare heat action plans aimed at reducing the adverse effects of extreme heat.
Recent weather patterns have shown temperatures reaching up to 40°C in some areas, an unusually high figure for this time of year.
Authorities have advised residents to:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to stay refreshed throughout the day.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Limit exposure, especially during peak hours.
- Wear Protective Clothing: Use hats and light, breathable fabrics for sun protection.
- Monitor Health: Watch for signs of heat-related illnesses and seek medical help if needed.
With the intense heat expected to continue, authorities urge community awareness and proactive measures to ensure safety across the state.
