Ranchi: Students protesting alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment examinations took out a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Ranchi on Saturday to mark the country’s 80th Independence Day and announced plans to gherao Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence on August 20, demanding his resignation.
The protesters also announced that they would burn effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi across all 24 districts of the state on Sunday.
They accused the ruling JMM-Congress alliance of failing to take concrete action on their demands concerning the recruitment examination system.
The announcements came as the protest entered its 22nd day. Thousands of students and job aspirants participated in the Tiranga Yatra in Ranchi, pressing for greater transparency and reforms in the recruitment examination process.
Among those taking part were two wheelchair-bound protesters who have been observing a hunger strike.
The protesters said their agitation would continue until their demands regarding alleged irregularities and transparency in recruitment examinations are addressed.
