“Toxic Smog Crisis: Northern Indian Cities Struggle with Hazardous Air Quality Levels”

Severe air pollution has blanketed cities across northern India, from Delhi to Assam, creating a public health emergency and intensifying respiratory issues. Dense smog, compounded by seasonal crop burning, industrial emissions, and vehicle pollution, has led to dangerously high Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, with many areas in the “severe” category. Delhi, in particular, remains the worst hit, where authorities are issuing advisories for reduced outdoor activity, urging people to use air purifiers indoors to mitigate health risks.

Images reveal cities shrouded in thick haze, with almost invisible skylines, a stark reminder of the worsening environmental crisis. Despite efforts to control pollution through restrictions on industries and emissions, the winter season’s cold and stagnant air has trapped pollutants closer to the ground, worsening the smog and likely prolonging its impact.
