Angh, a Naga-language feature film set in Nagaland, has won the top prize in the Platform Competition at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026.
Directed by Theja Rio, Angh marks his feature-film directorial debut. The film was the only Indian entry in this year’s Platform Competition and secured the award on Sunday.
The Platform section is one of TIFF’s key competitive programmes, recognising distinctive filmmaking and bold directorial voices from around the world.
The win also gives Angh an important route towards the 2027 Academy Awards. From this year, the winner of TIFF’s Platform Competition receives automatic qualification for consideration in the International Feature Film category at the Oscars.
