Kerala Braces for Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms Today

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense summer showers across Kerala today, with isolated regions expected to experience heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h, are likely, particularly in the afternoon.

The downpour is expected to persist for the next five days across all 14 districts. While no official weather warning has been issued, authorities are urging residents to stay alert.

Recent days have already seen significant rainfall, with Thiruvananthapuram witnessing severe waterlogging in key areas like Thampanoor, Vanchiyoor, and Chala. The city recorded a staggering 77.7 mm of rain in just 45 minutes.

Officials have cautioned about possible flooding in low-lying areas and riverbanks. Heavy rainfall could also lead to traffic disruptions and reduced visibility on major roads. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather developments.
