Jon Ossoff celebrates re-election victory, criticises Trump as Democrats make gains across US

Atlanta: US Senator Jon Ossoff has celebrated his re-election victory in Georgia, using his victory speech to criticise President Donald Trump and his administration. Ossoff defeated Republican candidate Mike Collins, who had received Trump’s endorsement.

Addressing supporters in Atlanta, Ossoff said voters had rejected what he described as the “depravity, corruption and incompetence” of the president. He also warned that the country continued to face serious challenges, pointing to corporate influence, rising healthcare costs, environmental pollution and the declining role of the United States in international affairs.

Ossoff thanked independent and Republican voters who supported his campaign and contributed to his victory. He also congratulated Georgia Governor-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms, who made history as the first woman elected to the state’s highest executive office.

Meanwhile, Democrats recorded significant gains in the midterm elections, securing control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The results marked a major electoral setback for Trump and the Republican Party.
