New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has stressed the need for coordinated and inclusive action to tackle climate change, saying its effects extend beyond the environment and have serious consequences for food security, health and livelihoods.
Murmu was speaking at the valedictory session of the international conference on ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’, organised by the National Green Tribunal in New Delhi on Sunday.
The President said climate change was creating imbalances at several levels and was closely linked to challenges such as biodiversity loss, water stress and land degradation.
She emphasised that addressing the complex nature of climate change requires a well-structured framework of policies and action. Such efforts, she said, should involve governments, legal experts and communities directly affected by environmental changes.
Murmu also highlighted the need for greater attention to rural and forest-dependent communities, small farmers, women and other vulnerable sections. These groups are often among those most severely affected by natural disasters and climate-related disruptions, she noted.
The President called for climate policies that take into account the specific needs and experiences of communities on the ground.
