New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has rescued more than 3,800 children as part of a nationwide campaign aimed at identifying, rescuing and rehabilitating children engaged in child labour and those vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.
The special “Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation” Campaign, launched on June 12, 2026, continued until August 31. The statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development coordinated with state governments and Union Territory administrations, district magistrates, labour departments, police authorities and other stakeholders to intensify rescue operations.
The NCPCR directed authorities to conduct targeted rescue operations at child labour and trafficking hotspots. States and Union Territories were also asked to regularly submit details on rescued children, FIRs registered, rehabilitation, restoration to families, educational mainstreaming, compensation and other follow-up measures.
To monitor the implementation of the campaign and address field-level challenges, the NCPCR held meetings with district administrations. The discussions focused on reviewing rescue operations, resolving operational bottlenecks, ensuring timely submission of action-taken reports and strengthening coordination among various departments and agencies.
The Commission also carried out awareness and outreach activities through social media and other communication platforms to spread information about the campaign, reporting of child labour and the importance of rehabilitation and educational mainstreaming after rescue.
According to the NCPCR, sustained monitoring and coordination with state authorities resulted in the rescue of over 3,800 children during the campaign. More than 575 FIRs were also registered in connection with the operations.
