Alappuzha: CPI(M) central committee member T M Thomas Isaac has attributed the party’s major defeat in the recent Assembly elections to growing arrogance within its ranks and lapses in candidate selection.
Speaking at a local party programme in Alappuzha on today, Isaac said the CPI(M) needed to seriously examine the reasons behind its electoral setback and take corrective measures.
He said the party’s 10-year tenure in power had contributed to a sense of arrogance among some of its leaders and workers. The party also failed to adequately assess public sentiment while choosing candidates, he said.
Isaac stressed the need for the CPI(M) to introspect on the election results, identify the factors that led to the defeat and make necessary organisational and political corrections.
