PM Modi inaugurates Pune Metro projects worth Rs 21,800 crore

Pune: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro projects worth around Rs 21,800 crore through video conferencing.

The projects include the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor, which is expected to improve connectivity to the city’s major IT hub, and a new line linking different parts of Pune.

Addressing the event, Modi said improved metro connectivity would reduce travel time, enhance urban mobility and boost economic growth. He noted that India’s metro network has expanded to nearly 1,200 km across 26 cities over the past 12 years, serving more than one crore passengers daily.

Highlighting Maharashtra’s progress, he said the state’s operational metro network had grown from 10-11 km in 2014 to nearly 175 km, with over 680 km of additional lines under construction. The ongoing projects, he added, would generate employment and support industrial growth.
