Paris: World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen retained his Esports World Cup chess title for the second consecutive year after defeating Belarusian Grandmaster Denis Lazavik in a one-sided final here on Saturday.
Representing Team Liquid, Carlsen delivered an unbeaten campaign throughout the tournament. The 35-year-old Norwegian entered the competition with a clear objective of defending his title and achieved it without losing a single match.
Carlsen defeated Lazavik, who represented AG.AL, 2-0 in the grand final, winning both games by a 3-1 margin.
The victory capped another dominant performance from Carlsen, who continued his impressive form to successfully defend his Esports World Cup crown.
