Udhagamandalam: A massive swarm of tiny black flies has caused panic among residents of Kotagiri in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district, with many fearing a possible disease outbreak.
The insects have suddenly appeared in large numbers over the past week, invading homes, restaurants and public spaces in the areas of Aravenu, Kottakombai and Kunjapanai, located along the scenic Kotagiri–Mettupalayam ghat road.
According to local residents, the tiny black flies have covered walls, household items and even food, leaving people concerned and unsure of how to deal with the infestation. Authorities are monitoring the situation as residents await measures to control the unusual insect swarm.
