Heavy Rain Likely Today; Yellow Alert Issued for Five Kerala Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall across Kerala on Friday and issued a Yellow Alert for five districts—Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

The rain is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, especially residents of coastal and hilly regions, and to strictly follow safety advisories.

According to the IMD, the intensified rainfall is due to a trough extending from the Gujarat coast to central Kerala. Rain is likely to continue across Kerala and Mahe until July 13.

Meanwhile, a fishing ban has been imposed along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts in view of rough sea conditions. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until further notice.
