New Delhi: Heavy monsoon rains continued to wreak havoc across several parts of India on Monday, leaving multiple people dead, disrupting transport services and prompting authorities to intensify rescue and relief operations.
Maharashtra remained the worst-affected state, with three more rain-related deaths reported in Pune, taking the state’s death toll to 13 over the past few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
In Himachal Pradesh, a 14-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by falling rocks during heavy rain, while flash floods and landslides disrupted normal life in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, damaging roads and affecting connectivity.
Several towns in Odisha were inundated following incessant rainfall, forcing local authorities to step up emergency response measures. Rail, road and air services were also affected in many regions due to flooding, waterlogging and adverse weather conditions.
The IMD has warned that heavy rainfall is likely to continue in several parts of the country over the coming days, urging people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow official advisories.
