New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday said Delhi’s public buses could eventually operate on hydrogen fuel produced from segregated municipal waste, highlighting the potential of clean energy and waste-to-fuel technology.
Addressing a youth conclave organised by the Delhi BJP, Gadkari said converting municipal waste into hydrogen could provide an environmentally friendly fuel alternative for public transport while also helping tackle urban waste management challenges.
The minister also shared his long-term vision of developing technologies that enable vehicles to run on hydrogen generated from water, describing it as a major step towards sustainable and pollution-free transportation.
Responding to doubts about the feasibility of such innovations, Gadkari expressed confidence in technological progress, saying that many of his earlier predictions on transport and infrastructure had eventually become reality.
He stressed that the adoption of alternative fuels would play a key role in reducing pollution, lowering fuel imports and promoting cleaner mobility in the country.
