Six New Shigella Cases Reported in Kerala; Nipah Patient Remains on Ventilator

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has reported six new cases of Shigella infection, with four cases confirmed in Kozhikode district and two in Malappuram, health authorities said.

A total of 197 Shigella cases have been reported in the state so far this month, taking the total number of infections this year to 273.

Meanwhile, the patient infected with the Nipah virus continues to remain on ventilator support at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Health officials also said that four people who had completed the mandatory observation period after being identified as contacts of the Nipah patient have been released from quarantine. Monitoring of other contacts and disease surveillance measures are continuing.
