The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala on Thursday. Orange alerts have been issued for the districts of Idukki and Ernakulam, while yellow alerts are in place for Kannur, Kasaragod, Thrissur, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta.
According to the weather department, isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam may experience moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph. Other districts could witness winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 kmph.
Authorities have also issued a warning over the possibility of a Kallakkadal (swell surge) phenomenon along the Kerala coast, which may lead to coastal erosion and sea incursions. Fishermen and residents living in coastal areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
