BJP Slams Mamata Banerjee Over Refusal to Resign After Poll Defeat

The BJP on Tuesday sharply criticised outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for stating that she would not resign despite her party’s electoral defeat, calling the move “anarchy” and against democratic norms.

In a statement, BJP leaders termed her stand “constitutional blasphemy” and accused her of undermining the principle of peaceful transfer of power, a cornerstone of India’s democratic system.

Mamata Banerjee, addressing a press conference in Kolkata a day after the BJP’s victory in the state, alleged large-scale irregularities in the counting process. The Trinamool Congress chief claimed that the mandate in nearly 100 constituencies had been “looted” and that counting was deliberately slowed to demoralise her party workers.

The BJP dismissed the allegations, asserting that the election process was conducted fairly and transparently.
