Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan on Thursday approached the Islamabad High Court seeking release on humanitarian grounds, citing prolonged solitary confinement and health concerns, including an eye infection.
The plea was submitted through his counsel Salman Safdar during the hearing of appeals filed by Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, challenging their conviction in the 190-million-pound corruption case.
An accountability court in Islamabad had, in January last year, sentenced Khan to 14 years in prison and Bibi to seven years in the case prosecuted by the National Accountability Bureau.
The High Court is currently hearing the appeals, with further proceedings expected in the coming days.
