India Engaged with Nepal Over Reports of Customs Duty on Cross-Border Goods: MEA

India has said it is in touch with Nepal following reports that Kathmandu may enforce customs duties on goods carried by travellers from India.

Responding to queries during a weekly briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi is closely engaged with the Nepali side on the issue.

He noted that reports indicate Nepalese authorities may begin enforcing an existing provision that allows the collection of customs duty on items purchased in India if their value exceeds 100 Nepali rupees.

Officials said the development is being monitored, with discussions ongoing between the two countries to address any concerns related to cross-border travel and trade.
