Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu today to launch and inaugurate development projects worth more than ₹16,000 crore across the two states.
In Kerala, the Prime Minister will attend a programme in Ernakulam this afternoon, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple projects valued at around ₹10,800 crore. He is also scheduled to address a public gathering during the event.
Later in the day, Modi will travel to Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu to launch projects worth approximately ₹5,650 crore. These initiatives focus on key sectors such as petroleum and natural gas infrastructure, rural connectivity, and highway development.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also flag off five new train services aimed at improving rail connectivity across the region.
The new services include two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two Express trains, and one passenger train. The Nagercoil–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express is expected to enhance connectivity between southern Tamil Nadu and Telangana while serving several districts in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Another service, the Podanur–Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express, will strengthen rail links between southern India and the mineral-rich and industrial regions of eastern India.
The other train services to be introduced are the Rameswaram–Mangaluru Express, Tirunelveli–Mangaluru Express, and the Mayiladuthurai–Thiruvarur–Karaikkudi Passenger.
Officials said the new train services are expected to significantly improve regional connectivity and contribute to economic growth in the areas they serve.
