Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala state government has increased the premium amount for Medisep, the health insurance scheme for government employees and pensioners. The monthly premium has been raised sharply from ₹500 to ₹810, according to an order issued by the State Finance Department.
The hike amounts to an additional ₹310 per month. On an annual basis, beneficiaries will now have to pay ₹8,237 plus GST as the premium. The revised rates will come into effect from the first of next month, and the increased premium will be deducted from government employees’ salaries starting this month.
The decision has triggered strong protests from service organisations. Employee and pensioner unions have announced plans to challenge the move legally, alleging that the premium hike imposes an additional financial burden on employees and pensioners at a time of economic strain.
