Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to receive intense showers today, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Thrissur, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Several parts of the state are likely to experience heavy, isolated downpours as weather conditions intensify.
The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, associated with the Ditva cyclone, has begun to weaken. However, this shift is expected to strengthen easterly winds over Kerala, increasing the chances of rain in the coming days.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall—defined as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours—is expected in select regions, while the remaining districts may receive light to moderate showers.
A strong low-pressure system lies over north Tamil Nadu and is likely to move westward, gradually weakening. Additionally, a trough extending from north Tamil Nadu across Karnataka and northern Kerala up to Lakshadweep at 1.5 km above sea level is further fueling the rain activity.
Residents are advised to stay alert and follow weather updates as conditions continue to evolve.
