New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram on Sunday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his “dimagi Naxal” remark, saying, “I am proud to be a dimagi Naxal.”
Modi, in his Independence Day address on Saturday, warned against what he described as “dimagi Naxals” who have allegedly entrenched themselves within the system and pose a threat to society by influencing policies. He called upon citizens to “identify and isolate” them.
Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, the Prime Minister said India had succeeded in eliminating armed Naxalism from the forests but cautioned that its ideological supporters were looking for opportunities to promote violence and anarchy.
Chidambaram’s remarks came amid a growing political controversy over the Prime Minister’s use of the term, with several opposition leaders criticising it as an attempt to target dissenting voices.
