Mumbai: Facing criticism from industries over pothole-ridden roads and persistent traffic congestion in the Chakan industrial belt of Pune district, the Maharashtra government has stepped up efforts to address the infrastructure problems.
The issue had also provided the Opposition an opportunity to target the state government over the condition of roads and traffic management in the key industrial hub.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday acknowledged serious infrastructure shortcomings in the industrial area and assured that steps would be taken to provide relief.
Following this, the state government constituted a high-level committee to address the problems faced by companies operating in the Chakan industrial belt.
On Sunday, Industries Minister Uday Samant visited the area and held discussions with senior government officials and representatives of industrial associations. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde participated in the discussions through video-conferencing.
The government is now working on measures to improve road conditions and ease traffic congestion in the industrial belt, which is home to several major manufacturing units.
