Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for another spell of isolated heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 40 km/h in select areas today. Despite the unstable weather, no district-specific alerts have been issued so far.
A low-pressure system that originated over the Kanyakumari sea has now shifted to the Lakshadweep–Maldives region, moving steadily in a west–northwest direction. At the same time, a cyclonic circulation hovering over the southwest Bay of Bengal is adding to the atmospheric instability. These combined systems are expected to keep Kerala under frequent heavy showers and lightning activity.
Meanwhile, IMD reports that by Saturday, another fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal. This system is forecast to strengthen into a deep depression by November 24, positioned over the central south Bay of Bengal. Over the following 48 hours, it may intensify further as it tracks west–northwest across the southwest Bay of Bengal, potentially influencing weather patterns over South India.
