The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has uncovered a suspected fraud ring involved in illegally re-registering vehicles that had already been officially scrapped by the State government. The shocking discovery suggests that several condemned vehicles, previously deemed unfit for use and removed from records, were fraudulently brought back onto the roads.
The MVD highlighted the issue through a post on its official Facebook page, warning the public about the suspicious activity. The fraud came to light during routine enforcement checks and document verification drives.
Initial investigation indicates that forged papers and tampered registration records were used to revive these scrapped vehicles, posing serious safety hazards to road users.
A full-scale probe has now been launched to identify all those involved—ranging from vehicle owners to middlemen and any officials who may have aided the illegal process. The department has assured strict action once the investigation concludes.
To prevent such malpractices in the future, the MVD has tightened its verification procedures and reiterated that vehicles once scrapped cannot legally return to circulation under any circumstances.
