Kerala to Hold Half-Yearly Exams in Single Phase; Christmas Break From December 23

Thiruvananthapuram: The Education Department has proposed a streamlined schedule for this year’s school half-yearly examinations by conducting them in a single phase. As per the plan, exams will begin on December 15 and conclude on December 23, following which schools across the state will close for the Christmas vacation. Classes will resume on January 5, while the Higher Secondary section may hold one or two pending exams on January 7.

The decision to revise the academic calendar was arrived at during a meeting chaired by Education Minister V. Sivankutty.

The final approval will be given by the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) Committee. Although the department had initially considered holding the exams in two phases due to election-related factors, an internal assessment suggested that such a split schedule could increase stress among students. As a result, the department opted for a single-phase examination plan, ensuring a smoother and less stressful academic experience.
