Chandigarh: Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday questioned the Centre’s celebration of India’s 7.8 per cent GDP growth, saying the figures offered little relief to millions still struggling with rising living costs.
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks praising the growth rate amid global economic and geopolitical challenges, Warring asked why people were being urged to practise frugality if the economy was performing strongly.
He alleged that ordinary Indians continued to face high inflation and widespread unemployment, and argued that economic growth should be measured by its impact on people’s everyday lives rather than GDP figures alone.
