Kalpetta: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Wayanad today, protesting against the government’s inaction in curbing rising wildlife attacks in the region. The hartal will be observed from 6 AM to 6 PM.
The UDF Wayanad district committee organized the protest, demanding urgent measures to control the increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict. However, essential services, including medical services, exams, weddings, and religious events, have been exempted from the strike.
Meanwhile, private bus operators and traders have announced that they will not support the hartal, stating that while they sympathize with the victims of wildlife attacks, disrupting daily life is not a solution. The protest follows recent elephant attacks, which have led to casualties and widespread panic among local residents.
