Thrissur: Thrissur district emerged as the champion of the 63rd Kerala State School Kalolsavam, clinching the prestigious Golden Cup after a 25-year-long wait. Thrissur secured a total of 1,008 points in a nail-biting finale, narrowly surpassing Palakkad, which finished with 1,007 points.
The victory is particularly significant as Thrissur’s last win was during the Kollam Kalolsavam in 1999. Kannur, the defending champion, came in third with 1,003 points, while Kozhikode, which dominated the title for 21 consecutive years, finished fourth with 1,000 points.
In the school category, Alathur BSG Gurukulam Higher Secondary School in Palakkad shone as the top performer with 171 points. Carmel Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram and MK NMHS School in Idukki secured the second and third positions, respectively.
The festival concluded with a grand closing ceremony, where Education Minister V. Sivankutty distributed the awards. Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan inaugurated the event, while popular actors Tovino Thomas and Asif Ali added a dash of glamour as chief guests.
