Pathanamthitta: Police have arrested three people, including the owner of a granite slab sales centre, for allegedly stealing granite slabs from tombs and selling them to customers.
The arrested were identified as Jalal Singh alias Sundar, a native of Kanyakumari who runs a granite slab business in Mallappally, Surjit Barman from West Bengal and Sajith, a native of Mallappally, police said.
According to police, the accused allegedly resorted to stealing slabs from tombs after their sales centre faced a shortage of stock. They are suspected of being involved in three such thefts in the Mallappally area.
The latest theft reportedly took place on Saturday, following which police launched an investigation and arrested the three suspects.
Further investigation is underway, police said.
