New Delhi: Bringing an end to weeks of speculation and internal deliberations, the Congress high command has appointed Sunny Joseph as the new President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), replacing K. Sudhakaran. The announcement was made by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, who added that Sudhakaran will remain a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee, retaining a key role in the party.
Sunny Joseph, a veteran leader and three-time MLA from Peravoor, has also served as the District Congress Committee President, making him a familiar and trusted face in party circles. Although other names were proposed—including by senior leaders like V.D. Satheesan and Anto Antony—sources reveal that Sudhakaran did not endorse them, eventually throwing his support behind Joseph, a close confidant.
In another significant move, M.M. Hassan has been relieved from the role of UDF Convener, with senior Congress leader and MP Adoor Prakash stepping in as his successor—signaling a possible strategy reset for the United Democratic Front in Kerala.
The revamp also includes the appointment of three new KPCC Working Presidents:
- P.C. Vishnunath (MLA)
- A.P. Anil Kumar (MLA)
- Shafi Parambil (MP)
The reshuffle is being viewed as a crucial step ahead of upcoming electoral challenges, as the Congress aims to energize its Kerala unit with a blend of experience and youth.
