SM Krishna: Architect of Bengaluru’s Rise to Global IT Hub

SM Krishna, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, played a pivotal role in transforming Bengaluru from a serene “pensioners’ paradise” into a thriving global IT hub. Serving as Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004, Krishna’s visionary leadership capitalized on the burgeoning potential of the IT industry, attracting major tech giants like Microsoft and Infosys to Bengaluru. His government’s business-friendly policies, investment in IT parks, and strategic urban development fueled the city’s rise as the “Silicon Valley of India”​.

Krishna also prioritized infrastructure, overseeing the construction of flyovers, improved road networks, and enhancements in public transport, making Bengaluru more accessible and livable​.His administration’s focus on good governance, education, and transparency contributed significantly to Karnataka’s holistic development​.

Beyond state politics, Krishna also served as India’s External Affairs Minister (2009-2012), strengthening diplomatic relations and promoting India’s global image​. His contributions left an enduring legacy, making him a key figure in Bengaluru’s transformation and India’s modern political history.
