Kerala Announces Free KSRTC Travel for Women Under ‘Priyadarshini Scheme’

The Kerala government has issued an order introducing free travel for women in KSRTC ordinary buses from June 15, 2026, under the “Priyadarshini Scheme.”

According to the guidelines, women of all age groups, from young girls to senior citizens, will be eligible for completely free travel on ordinary KSRTC services. There will be no distance limit for the journeys, and the benefit will also apply to interstate travel on ordinary buses.

The scheme will not be restricted to Kerala residents. Women from other states will also be entitled to free travel. The facility will be available on all categories of ordinary services, including Limited Stop (LS) Ordinary and Town-to-Town (TT) Ordinary buses.

Passengers availing the benefit will be issued a “zero-value ticket” during their journey. With the introduction of free travel, female students will no longer be required to obtain concession tickets.

The scheme will also extend to transgender passengers.

The government stated that the programme will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan at 8:30 a.m. on June 15, 2026, following which free travel will come into effect. Passengers travelling before the inauguration time will not be eligible for the free travel benefit.
