New Delhi: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will lead a plantation drive at PBG Ground near Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on August 12, marking Hariyali Amavasya.
Hundreds of colleagues will join the drive, while thousands of members of the Vriksh Mitra Abhiyan will plant saplings in villages, cities and panchayats across the country. The campaign has set a collective target of planting more than 50,000 saplings.
Chouhan said Hariyali Amavasya is an occasion to express gratitude to nature through meaningful action. He urged citizens to plant at least one sapling and contribute to environmental conservation.
He also called on participants to encourage five more people to join the plantation drive, with each of them motivating five others, with the aim of turning the initiative into a wider people’s movement.
