Kochi, Aug 14 (IVC) Under the auspices of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) would hold a ‘Red Alert’ March from Sept 18, demanding decommissioning of the Mullaperiyar dam in Idukki.
The Chairman of the Mullaperiyar Samara Samithi, Aloyius Kollannoor told newsmen here on Aug 13, that the life span of dam was 50 years. The Mullaperiyar was about 130 years of it was functioning and hence it was a positive threat to the people of Idukki . He alleged that the Government was slow despite the fact that decommissioning of the Dam was the only viable solution. If the appropriate authorities did not make a solution, it would adversely affect about five million people.,Kollannoor added.
