Kochi: R. Murugan Selvan, popularly known as Karate Murugan, has been unanimously elected as the new National Chairman of the Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam (SASS). The decision was taken at a special meeting of the organisation’s National Executive held on June 7.
A renowned sportsperson, author, and entrepreneur based in Mumbai, Murugan Selvan succeeds former National Chairman S. J. R. Kumar, who stepped down from the position.
The proposal to appoint Murugan Selvan was made by senior trustee and Annadanam Committee Chairman T. B. Shekhar and received unanimous support from all members present at the meeting. He had been serving as the Working Chairman of the organisation for the past year and was credited with strengthening its activities during that period.
Murugan Selvan has represented India at international karate conferences and has received several awards in recognition of his contributions to the field of sports.
The meeting was attended by prominent personalities including senior RSS leader S. Sethumadhavan, V. K. Viswanathan, A. R. Mohanan, and National Organising Secretary Erode Rajan.
