Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has received an Income Tax Department notic regarding his income from three major 2022 releases — Jana Gana Mana, Gold, and Kaduva. The notice, dated March 29, 2025, seeks clarification on his financial declarations and requests an official response by April 29.
In all three films, Prithviraj played dual roles as both lead actor and co-producer. Interestingly, reports suggest that he did not claim a separate acting fee, choosing instead to route his earnings through his banner, Prithviraj Productions. The Income Tax Department is now reviewing the accuracy and transparency of these financial arrangements.
This development comes close on the heels of Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the offices of Gokulam Gopalan, the producer of Prithviraj’s much-anticipated directorial venture L2: Empuraan. The ED’s probe is linked to alleged financial irregularities surrounding the film’s production.
While the timing has fueled speculation, officials clarified that the I-T notice is part of a routine follow-up from investigations launched back in December 2022. At that time, authorities had also conducted searches at Prithviraj’s residence and offices related to similar tax discrepancies involving his production house and affiliates.
As of now, Prithviraj has not made any public statement regarding the notice. The actor-director remains focused on L2: Empuraan, which is currently in production.
