Goa Liberation Day, celebrated annually on December 19, marks the day in 1961 when the state was liberated from Portuguese colonial rule after 450 years, following a military operation by the Indian Armed Forces known as “Operation Vijay.” The Prime Minister’s tribute highlighted the nation’s pride and gratitude towards the freedom fighters who played a pivotal role in securing Goa’s independence.
